Historical sites on the island of Rhodes include the Acropolis of Lindos, the Acropolis of Rhodes, the Temple of Apollo, ancient Ialysos, ancient Kamiros, the Governor's Palace, Rhodes Old Town (walled medieval city), the Palace of the Grand Masters, the Street of the Knights, Kahal Shalom Synagogue in the Jewish Quarter, the Archeological Museum, the Municipal Museum of Modern Greek Art, the ruins of the castle of Monolithos, the Castle of Castellos, the Archangelos Castle, the Asclipios Castle, the Feraklos Castle, the Filerimos Hill, the Tsambika Monastery, the castle of Kritinia and St. Catherine Hospice. You can also visit the Valley of the Butterflies, a very beautiful landscape surrounded by hills. Since the butterflies need quietude for their procreation and since the area is visited by many tourists, the population of the Petaloudes "butterflies" is constantly on the decline. Epta Piges (Seven springs) is a splendid location with a lot of pines and plane trees and for this reason, the temperature is lower. There is a lake that is constituted by 7 springs and you can see geese, ducks and peacocks. Cape Prasonisi is the southern-most tip of Rhodes. There is a peninsular connected to the main island by a sand bar. Unless you have a 4x4, think twice before driving your car across the sand bar: it becomes progressively less solid and it is easy to get stuck. Rhodes has also an Aquarium where you can see rare marine types, turtles and monk seals.
